Robert Menendez and His Wife Indicted on Bribery Charges
Former Senator and Wife Accused of Accepting Bribes
BREAKING NEWS
Robert Menendez, former Democratic Senator from New Jersey, and his wife, Nadine Arslanian, have been indicted on charges that they accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes, including cash, gold bars, and a luxury car. The charges were announced by the U.S. Attorney's Office in New Jersey on Friday.
According to the indictment, Menendez allegedly used his position as a senator to benefit the business interests of Salomon Melgen, a Florida eye doctor. In exchange, prosecutors allege that Melgen provided Menendez with lavish gifts, including luxury vacations, campaign contributions, and the bribes.
Arslanian is accused of participating in the scheme by accepting bribes on her husband's behalf and using the money to fund her own lavish lifestyle. Both Menendez and Arslanian have pleaded not guilty to the charges and are scheduled to go on trial in September.
If convicted, Menendez and Arslanian each face up to 45 years in prison.
