Dodgers' Hernandez Injured on HBP; IL Likely

Second Baseman Expected to Miss Significant Time

Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Gavin Hernandez is expected to miss significant time after being hit by a pitch in the team's 5-4 loss to the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night.

Hernandez was hit on the left hand by a 95 mph fastball from Giants starter Alex Cobb in the fifth inning. He immediately fell to the ground in pain and was attended to by trainers.

X-rays taken at the stadium were negative, but the Dodgers announced Wednesday that Hernandez has a fractured left hand. He is expected to undergo surgery and will be placed on the injured list.

Dodgers to Call Up Top Prospect

With Hernandez out, the Dodgers are expected to call up top prospect Michael Busch from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Busch, 24, is considered one of the best prospects in baseball and was ranked as the Dodgers' No. 1 prospect by MLB Pipeline.

He is hitting .320 with 15 home runs and 50 RBIs in 85 games at Triple-A this season.

Hernandez's Injury a Blow to Dodgers

Hernandez's injury is a significant blow to the Dodgers, who are currently in first place in the NL West.

He is a key part of the team's infield defense and has been a consistent hitter this season, batting .280 with 10 home runs and 40 RBIs.

The Dodgers will hope to get Hernandez back as soon as possible, but his injury is a reminder of the fragility of baseball players and the importance of depth.
